Session Abstract: This session examines whether the timing of math course completion influences student retention across distinct program pathways. Using a catalog-driven classification of seven pathways—including general education math, algebra, statistics, and discipline-specific calculus—we analyze when students complete required courses (by Year 1, Year 2, or later) and how these milestones align with one- and two-year retention. Attendees will learn a replicable method for mapping program-level requirements into pathways, coding completion timing, and linking these to student success outcomes. The session will highlight how such analyses can support advising, placement, and curricular decisions. Participants will leave with practical strategies to apply similar approaches at their institutions, helping them answer local questions about whether students are meeting math milestones on time or facing barriers that hinder persistence.
