Session Abstract: Student surveys offer rich opportunities to analyze open-ended responses for patterns, trends, and insights that may be overlooked in quantitative analyses of structured questions. However, manually coding these responses to identify themes can be time-consuming and labor-intensive. Recent advances in AI—particularly chatbot technologies—enable researchers to efficiently process and analyze thousands of open-ended responses. This poster presentation will demonstrate how to craft effective prompts for various AI chatbots to uncover thematic patterns in responses from a PhD Graduate Exit Survey.
