Director of Institutional Assessment Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions Provo, Utah, United States
Session Abstract: Higher education institutions rely on open-ended survey responses to capture the student voice. Institutional researchers are tasked with coding these responses for reporting, while also identifying disclosures that may require Title IX or other follow-up. Generative AI offers powerful new tools to accelerate qualitative coding and flag sensitive content, but its use also introduces questions of accuracy, ethics, and transparency. Institutions strive to balance efficiency with the obligation while informing respondents when AI assists in reviewing their comments. This discussion group will provide a forum to share practices, challenges, and strategies for responsibly integrating AI into qualitative analysis.
