Program Director, Metrics Strategies Florida State University Tallahassee, Florida, United States
Session Abstract: Metrics Strategies are a mindset and framework essential for high-impact Institutional Research (IR). More than just dashboards or rankings, this new field focuses on connecting metrics, tactics, strategies, and methodologies to create a framework that supports continuous improvement at every institutional level. This session will introduce Metrics Strategies as a comprehensive approach to data-driven decision-making, providing IR professionals with the tools to translate local efforts into global institutional success. We will define core components—Metric, Tactic, Strategy, Methodology, and Outcome—and illustrate how integrating existing frameworks, such as DMAIC and SMART Goals, strengthens campus-wide alignment. Attendees will learn how to strengthen the organizational impact of their data work, improving clarity, focus, and return on investment (ROI). This topic is critical for advancing the IR/data function by ensuring efforts contribute to broader institutional goals.
