Session Abstract: This session introduces participants to using generative AI to build custom Shiny R survey applications tailored to contextual goals. While many institutions use platforms like Qualtrics with robust features, such tools can limit opportunities to test new formats or pilot unconventional approaches valuable for decision makers and students. Participants will see how AI can help non-programmers with beginner-level Shiny knowledge quickly prototype small survey tools that act as proofs of concept for novel data collection ideas. The session will include a short Shiny introduction, an overview of AI tools that generate usable R code, and a live demo creating and deploying a simple survey app for a real-world higher-ed scenario. Attendees will learn how AI-assisted Shiny apps can expand data collection options that leverage existing systems. By the end, participants will gain applied knowledge of tools to explore AI-enabled prototyping for more flexible survey practices.
