Session Abstract: This presentation will go over the end-to-end benchmarking project process and the steps we took to accomplish the project. It will go over how we took the needs of the leadership team and interpreted those needs into appropriate metrics that made an apples-to-apples comparison with other colleges. Beginning with pulling in IPEDS data, to ending up in a Power BI dashboard, we will discuss how we chose our peers and created three different peer groups, using both leadership experience and algorithmic tools, like Cosine Similarity and K-Means Clustering. The project has demonstrated value, allowing leadership to find the right questions to ask, and what colleges to look at when searching for answers. An attendee will be able to identify one or more of the steps from our process in their own benchmarking project and learn a general solution for each step.
