Senior Data and Research Analyst
California State University, Channel Islands (CSUCI)
Paul Peterson is a Senior Data and Research Analyst at California State University, Channel Islands (CSUCI) where his institutional research aims to better understand and bolster campus wide post-graduate outcomes, embedded peer tutoring centers, admissions, high impact practices, student academic successes, and student experiences more generally. Before joining the field of Institutional Research, Paul completed his PhD in Sociology at the University of California, Riverside. A recent Data to Action Campaign for Parenting Students grant from the Urban Institute has enabled him to dig deeper into institutional data about parenting students and various student support services around campus. Dr. Peterson has often been tasked with searching for, assessing the quality of, and working with various data sources in order to analyze them and make them more accessible for a general audience. His recent collaborative work streamlining various institutional parenting student data sources into several already institutionalized dashboards has brought CSUCI a wealth of new data in a relatively short amount of time. He hopes CI’s strategy can be replicable for institutional researchers and others looking to support this sometimes overlooked subgroup of students.
