Karen Egypt is the Assistant Director for Assessment in the Office of Assessment & Technology at the University of Maryland, College Park. With over 30 years of experience in higher education, she has developed deep expertise in research, reporting, data analytics, and assessment. Prior to joining UMD, Karen served as Director of Institutional Research at Cecil College and as Assistant Director of Data Analytics at Anne Arundel Community College.
A frequent presenter on equity-centered analytics, organizational wellbeing, and sustainable leadership practices, Karen brings a practical and compassionate perspective to navigating the increasing demands placed on higher education professionals. Her work focuses on balancing workload with personal wellbeing, fostering cultures of care, and building resilient, high-functioning teams. Drawing on her leadership experience, she shares actionable strategies for managing competing priorities, setting boundaries, and supporting both individual and team success in high-pressure, data-intensive environments.
Karen also brings extensive experience with accreditation processes, having served as a peer evaluator for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education across multiple self-study and site visit reviews at both two- and four-year institutions. She has held elected leadership roles with the Association for Institutional Research and the North East Association for Institutional Research, contributing to the advancement of the field and the professional growth and wellbeing of institutional research and data professionals.
