Travis T. York, Ph.D., serves as the Director of the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s Center for STEMM Education & Workforce (CSEW). Dr. York’s research and work focus on catalyzing and sustaining systemic change and transformation to achieve increased opportunities for all people to access STEMM pathways and contribute to the STEMM enterprise. Within AAAS, Dr. York provides leadership to a talented team of 30+ who collaborate in 20+ projects and initiatives spanning all STEMM fields and the entire educational pathway, including the STEMM Opportunity Alliance, AAAS’s SEA Change Initiative, Equitable Pathways Project, L’Oréal USA Women in Science Awards, and HBCU Making & Innovation Showcase.
Having been awarded more than $70 Million in grants as a Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. York currently serves as the PI of the AAAS Scholarships in STEM Resources & Evaluation Center (S-STEM REC), AAAS Noyce, ARISE (Advancing Research and Innovation in the STEM Education of Preservice Teachers in High-Need School Districts), and AAAS Improving Undergraduate STEM Education initiative, Equitable Pathways Project, and Catalyzing a Data Infrastructure to Support LGBTQ Inclusion in STEMM. In addition to authoring and co-authoring more than 30 peer-reviewed articles, monographs, reports, and book chapters, Dr. York is an international speaker having delivered more than 50 keynotes, presentations, and media interviews. York is active in several professional associations, serves on numerous Advisory Boards, including the U.S. Department of Defense’s DSEC initiative, and serves on a committee and roundtable at the National Academies of Science, Engineering, & Medicine.
Dr. York, a native of Charleston, South Carolina, received his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from The Pennsylvania State University, Master’s in Higher Education, and bachelor’s with distinction from Geneva College. Dr. York also studied at Oxford University’s Keble College in 2003-04 where his curiosity for differential higher education structures was first kindled.
