Dr Munienge Mbodila is a distinguished academic and researcher. Currently, he serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Networks and IT Support, in addition to his role as Manager: Student Tracking and Institutional Research within the Directorate of Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation at Walter Sisulu University. In this capacity, he plays a pivotal role in harnessing data analytics to drive and enhance student success.
He holds a BSc and Honours degree in Computer Science from the University of Fort Hare (2006 and 2008, respectively). He earned an MSc in Computer Science and Information Systems from North-West University in 2014. His commitment to excellence in higher education is further demonstrated by his Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning from Stellenbosch University and a PhD in Computer Science and Information Systems from North-West University.
He is currently serving on the SAAIR Exco, overseeing the Institutional Research (IR) Institute. He is also a member of a working group of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) focused on the Ethical and Societal Impacts of Generative AI in Higher Computing Education. He has made significant contributions to the academic community, with published articles and numerous presentations at national and international conferences. Developed two EOR: Student Guidelines for the Use of ChatGPT and Other Generative AI Tools in Education, and Guidelines for Coding and Robotics Curriculum Development. His expertise in teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, and student tracking and Institutional Research empowers the institutions to identify trends, conduct institutional research, monitor student progress, and implement data-informed interventions to drive student success.
Dr Mbodila is the recipient of multiple excellence awards in teaching, research, and the innovative use of technology for education.
