Associate Vice Provost for Strategic Insights and Institutional Effectiveness

Dr. Shari Ellertson is an experienced higher education leader with more than 30 years of expertise spanning administration, teaching, research, assessment, and institutional effectiveness. Her work centers on using evidence and data-informed decision making to improve student learning and strengthen institutional outcomes. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Iowa State University, an M.S. in Counseling and Student Affairs from Moorhead State University, and a B.S. in Psychology from North Dakota State University. She also served as a postdoctoral research associate with the Research Institute for Studies in Education (RISE) at Iowa State University.
In 2025, Ellertson became Associate Vice Provost for Strategic Insights and Institutional Effectiveness at Boise State University, where she also serves as Accreditation Liaison Officer. Previously, she led Boise State’s Office of Institutional Effectiveness for more than a decade, advancing program assessment, supporting data-informed strategic initiatives, and establishing a university data governance committee. She has contributed to the higher education community through leadership roles with the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), service as a Teagle Assessment Scholar, peer review work with NWCCU, and numerous publications and conference presentations.
