Douglas Havard, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Quantitative Methods at Chapman University in California, with a joint appointment in the Fowler School of Engineering. A former aerospace engineer, his scholarship examines how artificial intelligence, quantitative reasoning, and institutional systems are reshaping engineering and STEM education, with particular emphasis on equity, mathematics identity, adaptive expertise, and broadening participation. His research integrates large-scale national datasets, policy analysis, and quantitative methods to investigate how educational systems structure STEM opportunity and how engineering education can be redesigned for more inclusive, AI-mediated futures. Dr. Havard has presented his work at ASEE, IEEE, AERA, and ISLS, and has served on National Science Foundation review panels. Drawing on experience across industry, community colleges, and research universities, he brings a cross-sector perspective to engineering education policy, instructional design, and workforce development. He is also authoring Deconstructing STEM, a forthcoming book that critically examines the historical, political, and institutional construction of STEM as a modern educational and workforce category.
