Session Abstract: As institutional effectiveness professionals, we produce work that people use, and deal in a medium that can be seen as intimidating by those not acclimated to working with institutional data. This poster examines how we can improve our data tools and processes to be more inviting, intuitive and accessible by integrating the idea of "empathetic design" into our field. This design approach centers the end user and considers their needs and perspectives. We will discuss practical steps data professionals can take before, during, and after the design process to implement this approach when designing data dashboards, assessment processes, etc.
