With 33 years of higher education experience, Dr. Jason Simon most recently served as Associate Vice President of Data, Analytics and Institutional Research (DAIR) at the University of North Texas. He lead a comprehensive enterprise-wide data warehouse team of 13 that brought together data sources from across campus to promote data informed decision making for UNT. His work was featured in the Chronicle of Higher Education, IHEP, and the Journal of Institutional Research. Currently he is a co-founder and independent consultant with SCL Impact as well as serving as Research Partner for the PSEO Coalition.
Dr. Simon is a frequent keynote speaker at local, regional, and national conferences on data, analytics, AI/NLP, and institutional culture. His scholarly writings focus on how campus culture can impact the success or failure of data and analytic projects. Dr. Simon was one of two institutional researchers to help draft the “Change with Analytics” statement which is promoting data informed decision making in new ways across higher education. Finally, he served as a UNT representative on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grant for AIR/EDUCAUSE/NACUBO to improve analytic maturity in higher education. Finally, Dr. Simon serves as a faculty member in the Association for Institutional Research LEADs leadership development program where has helped mentor over 300 higher education data leaders since 2022 in topics such as setting vision and strategy, advocating for analytic maturity practices, and leveraging artificial intelligence for administrative purposes in higher education.
