Metrics Mission Control: Building a Strategic Plan Tracking Dashboard

Session Abstract: Strategic plan implementation is a shared responsibility among staff and faculty at colleges and universities, but information about how the plan is progressing is not always easily accessible. At the College of Southern Maryland, the department of Planning, Institutional Effectiveness, and Research has collaborated across the college to create a Power BI dashboard that shows the progression of seven different strategic plan metrics and provides the ability to look closely and disaggregate the data behind the metrics. Public-facing and internal versions of the dashboard make this data readily available to members of the community, students, and employees. In this presentation, we will outline this collaborative process, discussing the contributions of various stakeholders and the challenges we faced. We will share the initial and finished products and our tips for creating a strategic plan metrics tracker that is accessible and useful.
